Browns Trade for Dustin Hopkins, Waive Cade York

The Cleveland Browns have made a move to bolster their kicking game, trading for veteran kicker Dustin Hopkins and waiving rookie Cade York. The move comes as the Browns look to improve their special teams play after a disappointing 2020 season.

Hopkins, 32, is a nine-year veteran who has spent time with the Washington Football Team, Buffalo Bills and New Orleans Saints. He has made 81.7 percent of his field goal attempts in his career and has been reliable from long range, making 11 of 15 attempts from 50 yards or more. He also has experience kicking in cold weather conditions, which could be beneficial for the Browns as they play in the AFC North.

York, 22, was signed by the Browns as an undrafted free agent out of Penn State this offseason. He had an impressive college career with the Nittany Lions but struggled during training camp and preseason games with the Browns. He was waived on Saturday after missing two field goals in Clevelands preseason finale against Detroit on Thursday night.

The move to acquire Hopkins gives the Browns a reliable kicker who can help them win close games this season.
