VAR Missed Blatant Onana Foul in Man United Win - ONeil - ESPN
Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has criticised the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) for missing a “blatant” foul on Ajax goalkeeper Andre Onana during his sides 2-1 win over the Dutch side in the UEFA Champions League.
The incident occurred in the second half of the match, when Onana was brought down by United defender Victor Lindelof as he attempted to clear a ball from inside his own penalty area. The referee waved play on, but replays showed that Onana had been fouled and should have been awarded a penalty.
Speaking after the match, Solskjaer said: “It was a blatant foul on Andre Onana and it should have been given as a penalty. VAR should have seen it and given it. It was very clear.”
The Norwegian manager also expressed his frustration at the lack of consistency from VAR this season, saying: “It seems like every week there is something different with VAR and it is very frustrating for us managers. We just want consistency and clarity so we know what to expect from them.”
The incident has sparked debate among football fans about whether VAR is being used correctly and whether it is having an impact on the game. Some argue that VAR is making decisions too slowly, while others believe that it is not being used correctly or consistently enough to make an impact on matches.
Whatever your opinion on VAR, one thing is certain: its use in football will continue to be debated for some time to come.
